Calgary Community Fencing Association
Calgary Community Fencing Association provides meaningful sport participation through Olympic Fencing to children, youth and adults with a community-driven focus. It is our belief that communities, schools and families should be the first and most important element of a sport system which promotes all participants to be more active more often.
We facilitate accessibility to our programming through partnership with community associations, schools and local fencing clubs. We provide opportunity for a seamless transition from first-time experience to fundamentals to active for life participation. Participants who wish to continue to in a training / competitive context are supported by transition to club fencing.
CALGARY COMMUNITY FENCING PROGRAMS
Our programming is carefully designed by professional coaches and a sport development technical director to meet the need of participants. Our organization supports three main pathways of participation:
School-Based Programming provides students the opportunity to experience the sport within their physical education class at school. Age and developmentally specific programming separates grades 1 through 12. General and specific objective align with the Alberta Active Living Curriculum.
After-School Programming provides participants ages 8+ the opportunity to continue participation in an extra curricular context. Programs run either at schools or in a community centre walking distance away. The focus of after-school programs is fun, inclusion and developing the basic skills required for further participation.
The Community Connection Program provides children, youth and parents the opportunity to initiate participation as beginners or continue active participation after another program without leaving their community. Programming focuses on fundamental skills development and lots of activity. Parent-child participation is strongly encouraged.
